This 40 years old gentleman comes with fall from height of about 3rd floor. Soon after he hit the ground, he was not able to move his legs and was not able to pass urine. He was evaluated and was found to have fracture of his spine involving second vertebra in lumbar region. Emergency surgery was performed. He is undergoing physiotherapy. Still there is no improvement in neurological status. He continues to be paralyzed in legs and has no control over his urine and stools.


Spine injuries are commonly seen in young individuals who meet with road traffic accidents. Most of the times these injuries involve flexible portions of spine like cervical and lumbar spine. These injuries range from simple muscle strain to devastating spinal cord injuries, which leave the victim paralyzed for life or may result in death. These injuries require to be always suspected in any type of trauma and should be addressed at all times.
